PREDNEAU is a concentrated prednisolone oral solution that has a pleasant orange flavor.
PREDNEAU’s active ingredient is prednisolone that belongs to the group of synthetic corticosteroids. Specifically, prednisolone is a synthetic derivative of cortisol, a naturally occurring hormone secreted by the adrenal cortex. Cortisol was firstly observed to act therapeutically back in 1929, whereas in 1933 a group of American chemists managed to isolate cortisol from animal adrenal gland tissue. It was firstly used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis with surprisingly promising results, accompanied though with several adverse reactions. In 1950, Edward Calvin Kendall, Tadeus Reichstein and Philip Showalter Hench were awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for ‘’ their discoveries relating to the hormones of the adrenal cortex, their structure and biological effects”.
FDA approved prednisolone for its therapeutic use in 1955 and was indicated to treat certain types of allergies, inflammatory conditions, autoimmune disorders, and cancers. It is included in the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines, the worldwide official document where the essential medicines for every healthcare system are listed.
Patients are strongly advised to begin and terminate the treatment with PREDNEAU under a physician’s guidance.
